Hey everyone! Its been a bit over a month since my last update here which means I have a good deal of progress to delve into! First off, I just wanted to relay the great news that our Kickstarter has passed with a grand total of 1,023 dollars, which was over 250% of our goal of 400 dollars! Awesome. This will really give us a hand in getting us the extra software, hardware and media we need to get things finished and move on to other projects. Moving on to Core of Innocence stuff now, I have just released the next build to our test group which contains five new enemies bringing the total up to 45 complete.

Also in this build there was some modification to the combat engine to remove the enemies ability to outright block damage as it was proving to be a frustrating mechanic for players to overcome. So far it seems to have been a positive change and makes fighting enemies less frustrating. There are some further engine tweaks/revamps to come to better sort out damage types when dealing with physical attacks and magical attacks. Players were having a tough time deciphering which attacks were magic based using the ‘resistance’ stat for the defense check and which attacks were physical attacks that used the ‘defense’ statistic. So to alleviate this, we will be removing the spell resist statistic and changing it to a ‘projectile’ resistance. This way players can more easily differentiate between melee damage and projectile damage to reduce confusion in why some monsters were hitting ridiculously hard because the projectile did not look like a magical attack and vice versa.

We have also been working on adding some detailed backgrounds to the levels to bring them out a bit more. They have been turning out quite nice!

In the meanwhile, I have posted a new video and a couple screens to the CoI media sections. Check em out.

Hey everybody!

Just a quick update to state that testing on the current enemy set is going awesome! The bug reports have been coming in and so far most of it has been really easy stuff to fix. We have also added in a new animation for double jumping as well as a new evasive maneuver, the back-dash ala Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Except you can use the back-dash in CoI while attacking which I feel really opens up the combat and reduces getting cheap shotted by being stuck in an attack animation while the enemy is attacking as well.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Just got 40 enemies completed! I have some final tweaking to do to the AI’s and some quick edits here and there – but hope to have a test version out to my testers by Monday!

Also, I had a meeting with Aaron last week about the music, and getting that all wrapped up – we are up to 20 tracks! It’s crazy because it doesn’t seem like that many in game.

After I get the test version sent out I plan on taking a couple weeks to focus on some sound effects for the enemies, as well as spending some time drawing and planning out the last 20 enemies to fill in any gaps I have in enemy coverage per stage. Currently there are only two enemies that share the same animations, so I’m pretty close to having a full set of 60 enemies without any palette swaps.

If I can keep up this pace I may actually be able to release sometime this year… XD

Hey everyone!

First I’ll apologize for the delay in the update, as its been a good while. We had some technical difficulties with the site and it wasn’t letting us post anything. Got that all fixed and we are back up and runnin again!

Three years ago Aaron and I were sitting in his office, just wondering what the hell to name our little group. We didn’t really NEED a name but figured it would be nice to have a spot on the web that was unique for us to host our games (yes, I realize the irony of not having a completed game up yet… heh) and here we are now, three years later and are slowly nearing completion of our first game. Its a good feeling.

In other exciting news, PHG may be taking on another developer or two to work on the mobile media side of things, developing games for Android, iPhone and the like. More to come on that as details unfold.

Now, to some news on Core of Innocence. Things are coming along great! I recently purchased a laptop so that I am able to do sprite animations on the road or when collaborating with other members of PHG. I am up to having twenty enemies complete and in the process of tweaking some things before I send a build out for testing. That leaves 20-40 enemies to finish up, the bosses (which a few are sprited out already), placing the treasure chests and weapons throughout the levels and then final tweaks and adjustments and adding little things to bring life to the game world. Oh. and the intro movie Sam made… effin’ SWEET.

Hey everyone, just a quick update on whats been going on with CoI – I’ve been working with any bit of free time I can get drawing and programming new enemies and getting them as bug free as possible. I have programmed an ‘arena’ so to speak in the game, so that my group of testers can spawn enemies at will and test them for difficulty, bugs, etc so I can do all my tweaking in one location before spreading the enemies game-wide!

I have 9 enemies working now, with minimal issues so far. My goal is to have at LEAST 50-60 unique enemy sprites, with perhaps a few sets of palette swaps for tougher versions of the monsters. So far everything else has been going great but a bit slow! (stupid visit to the hospital didn’t help any… but I’m better now!)

I’ll post again soon with any further progress.

I am pleased to announce I finally had a solid block of time tonight and the drive to get back to work on CoI! I finished two more bad guys, a handful of bug fixes as well as getting myself familiar with the engine again and playing around with stuff. I’m setting a goal for myself to try to finish at least one new bad guy every couple days. Any progress is progress I say!

Hey everyone, Figured it was about time for my monthly update again! I have some excellent news to deliver this time around, the game has been converted to use Hardware Acceleration (here on out referred to as HWA mode), versus just the standard mode of Multimedia Fusion. What this means for those of you who may have never used MMF, is that it will use the video card for display updates, instead of the system memory!

So far its been a very trying task but the results are fantastic, and really bring the game up to where I’m pleased with the results and proud of the project as a whole. There are some final tweaks and tests but I should be releasing an Alpha of the world test to my testing group soon (For real this time!), while I get into reprogramming the AI for the monsters, to work with the new HWA based menus and whatnot.

Needless to say the game is still coming along epic-ly! I hope for a release sometime this year, but I’m not promising anything yet. I’ll be pulling the ‘Blizzard’ stance on it for now. It’ll be done when its done!
